  Falklands' Criminal law and criminal justice system reform come into force Friday

  

  The Falkland Islands government has announced as part of its transparency policy that reform to the criminal law and criminal justice system come into force from Friday, 21st April. The official release states that the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Ordinance and the Crimes Ordinance are a root and branch reform of the criminal law and the criminal justice system in the Falkland Islands.

  Falklands issues coins in honor of Queen's platinum wedding anniversary

  

  The Treasury of the Falkland Islands government have launched a new series of coins that celebrate the wedding anniversary of HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. The couple were married after a brief engagement, but, as the couple had been long acquainted, the marriage was—for at least the princess—a foregone conclusion.

  South Atlantic airbridge tends to normalize by rerouting to West Africa airports

  

  The Falkland Islands government has made further announcements regarding the South Atlantic Airbridge, which has been rerouted because of the temporary closure of Ascension Island runway, but now seems to be back in track to normalizing via alternative airports in West Africa. Ascenson island, in mid Atlantic, is a crucial call point for the long airbridge to the Falklands.

  South Atlantic air bridge rerouted temporarily; repairs to the Ascension Island runway

  

  It's going to be a busny winter for the Falkland Islands. The government has announced that due to repairs required to the Ascension Island runway, the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) is temporarily rerouting the South Atlantic Airbridge via an alternative location. The UK air bridge from Brize Norton to the Falklands normally calls at Ascension Island both ways.

  Falklands review tourist season and discuss shortcomings and improvements

  

  Falkland Islands Tourist Board chairman Mike Rendell and Interim CEO Steph Middleton welcomed a large group of interested parties to the Chamber of Commerce last week for an informal end of tourist season ‘washup.’ Topics raised ranged from perennial issues such as easy access to the Totem Pole for tourists, to newer developments such as what to do with the new jetty.

  On Thursday 30th March, the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands voted strongly in favor of reform and passed the Marriage Bill, allowing same sex marriage and civil partnerships for both same sex couples and heterosexual couples.

  Falklands: Dolphin Fund desists from taking over FIH Group, at this time

  

  Dolphin Fund Ltd said late Thursday that it has decided not to make an offer for FIH Group PLC at this time, following a letter from the Falkland Islands Government warning FIH about its status should it undertake a change of ownership.

  The new Commander of British Forces South Atlantic Islands, Brigadier Baz Bennett OBE arrived in the Islands this week. Brigadier Bennett began his military career in 1991, commissioning into the Royal Artillery in the Army.
