    Falklands to build construction unit for vulnerable persons

    MLAs and government officers will scrutinize the evaluations and following this a briefing will be prepared for the Executive Council meeting in August.

    Following a formal procurement process, the Falkland Islands Government has received tender responses from a number of construction companies interested in building the new vulnerable persons extra care unit in Stanley.

    Falkland Islands elected government establishes new portfolio system

    Chair of the Legislative Assembly, MLA Stacy Bragger said the restructure will help make the business of Government more efficient and more transparent

    Members of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly recently reviewed the portfolio system, having now been in post for six months. The resulting changes are designed to provide greater clarity in the detail of each portfolio, as well as to ensure equity for each portfolio holder.

    Falkland Islands fishing companies may have attended the Brussels Seafood Show intermittently for over a decade, but the looming specter of Brexit lent this year’s attendance unprecedented significance. For James Bates, Falkland Islands Fishing Companies Association (FIFCA) Executive Secretary, Brexit gave the industry’s stand at the show a clear mandate this year, “it was about being visible at a time when we need to be.”

    Falklands' elected government after a Special Advisor for the coming C24 meeting

    MLAs Roger Edwards and Ian Hansen will be attending the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) on 22 June.

    The Falkland Islands elected government are interested in recruiting a Special Advisor with a particular interest in global politics. The purpose of the Special Advisor is to support the two elected representatives of the Falklands that will be attending the annual meeting of the Special Committee on Decolonization (C24) scheduled to take place next 22 June at the United Nations.

    Falkland Islands Immigration System Slowly Changing

    Mrs Leona Roberts MLA described this change as “much-anticipated”.

    Over a number of years the Falkland Islands Government have been reviewing and looking to update their immigration laws and procedures. The review formally started in 2013 and has seen a number of papers and proposals considered by the Government since that time. Two large papers were considered by the Islands Government in 2015, with a number of principles being agreed and legislation subsequently being updated.

    Falklands angry with National Geographic; demands apology to the Islands and its people

    Anger has been expressed in the Falkland Islands this week over a letter which was sent to the Argentine Governor of Tierra del Fuego, Rosana Bertone, by a representative of the National Geographic Foundation. The letter, dated February 8, contains an apology for the appearance of the label ‘Falkland Islands’ instead of ‘Malvinas Islands’ on photos published on Instagram, which were taken here.

    Falklands government comment on a reported visit to the Argentine Cemetery

    The Falkland Islands elected government has reacted to a raft of reports from Argentina announcing a trip to the Islands, sometime in the second half of March by the relatives of the 88 soldiers, buried at Darwin cemetery, which have been recently identified by a team of forensic experts working under the International Red Cross Committee.
